Company Overview
The Winn Association for Retarded Citizens, Inc. and the Winn Sheltered Workshop, Inc. provides pre job training and work opportunities for mentally and developmentally disabled adults (customers). The Sheltered Workshop offers work opportunities in wood-working, custodial maintenance, grounds maintenance, ironing, and other small jobs that provide skills and salary for the customers. Life skills are also taught to assist some customers in living or preparing to live independently. Over the past 20 years the WARC has placed several customers in jobs in the community of Winnfield, LA. and has succeeded in providing them with pay for the work that they do. This has served to booster customer esteem and prepares them for contributing to the greater community.
Company History
The Winn Association for Retarded Citizens, Inc was established in 1981 to promote the general welfare of the mentally and developmentally disabled, develop programs on their behalf, encourage research, advise and aid caregivers, and promote public understanding and cooperation.
The Winn Sheltered Workshop was established in 1988 to promote education, training, skills, meaningful labor and promote self-confidence and good citizenship for the mentally and developmentally disabled.
Notable Accomplishments / Recognition
The WARC & Sheltered Workshop provides a place for the mentally and developmentally disabled adults to obtain job skills that will allow them to transisiton to a private sector job. The organization has been successful in placing several consumers in private sector jobs.
