Pearl S. Buck International (PSBI), has three distinct functions that operate as one with the common mission of continuing the legacy and dreams of Pearl S. Buck - her commitment to improving the quality of life and experiencing opportunities for children and promoting an understanding of the values and attributes of othe cultures, the injustice of prejudice, and the need for humanitarianism throughout the world.
For more than fifty years, the Welcome House Adoption Program has led the way in changing attitudes and creating adoption choices which transcend racial and cultural borders. Specializing in the unique needs of multi-cultural children and families, the Welcome House Adoption Program seeks homes that will celebrate the child's birth culture as well as provide a stable, loving environment for children. Company History
In 1949, Pearl S. Buck, the first woman to win both the Nobel and Pulitzer Prize for literature founded Welcome House, the first US adoption agency that placed multi-cultural children and special needs children with families in the United States. The Pearl S. Buck Foundation was founded in 1964 by Pearl S. Buck, to promote tolerance, human rights, and inter-cultural understanding. In 1991, Welcome House and the Pearl S. Buck Foundation were merged into one organization which is known today as Pearl S. Buck International.
