Company Overview

In 1917 seven Lutheran churches formed an
organization in Washington, DC to provide food,
clothing and shelter for the poor. Over the
years programs were added as society's needs
changed and the service area grew to accommodate
a mobile population. Today, LSS/NCA serves
communities in Washington, DC, Northern Virginia
and Maryland providing support and assistance to
countless people in need regardless of
religion,race, national origin, sexual
orientation, gender, age and ethnicity.

LSS/NCA is committed to providing services that
offer hope to, and promote the well-being of
children, individuals, families and communities
most in need; assisting congregations in
identifying and responding to local and regional
community needs; educating LSS/NCA constituencies
in,and to advocate for, social justice,
individual self-sufficiency and the inherent
worth of each human being; and encouraging
teamwork and the growth, development and
contribution of LSS/NCA employees and volunteers.

The service programs LSS/NCA has developed and
implemented address both the mission and
committment of this organization. These programs
are Adoptions, Birth Parent counseling, and
Foster care; Earthkeeping, Lutheran Disaster
Response; Mental Health Services, Northern
Virginig Coalition (NOVACO) Program; Project Safe
Haven and the Summer Camps Program; and Refugee
and Immigrant Services.


















































Company History


The Adoption and Foster Care Program provides
domestic and international adoption services to
families and recruits and trains foster and
adoptive parents to provide a safe haven for
abused and neglected children. Licensed in the
District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia,
this program works to strengthen and preserve
families and to pursue a nurturing, permanent
home for each child. In 2001 this program served
and protected 231 children and youth, 664
families were preserved, strengthened and
supported and 75 adoptions were completed.
