Company Overview
Mission:
The House of Ruth Maryland leads the fight to end violence against women and their children by confronting the attitudes, behaviors and systems that perpetuate it, and by providing victims with the services necessary to rebuild their lives safely and free of fear.
Our vision is that one day, every woman in Maryland will be safe in her own home.
History
The House of Ruth Maryland (HRM) was founded in 1977 by a coalition of women’s organizations, religious groups, and concerned citizens keenly aware of the growing need to provide protection, refuge, and services for victims of intimate partner violence (IPV). Over the past thirty-five years, HRM has grown from Baltimore’s first crisis center to being Maryland’s largest provider of wrap-around services to IPV victims and their children. It is our mission to lead the fight to end violence against women and their children by confronting the attitudes, behaviors and systems that perpetuate it, and by providing victims with the services necessary to rebuild their lives safely and free of fear.
Today, the House of Ruth Maryland provides a comprehensive continuum of programs which includes hotline and crisis counseling, emergency and transitional shelter, safety planning, legal representation, therapeutic counseling, and service coordination all targeted toward helping IPV victims and their children escape violence, increase safety, and regain economic and personal independence. Simultaneously HRM’s Training Institute and Abuser Intervention programs increase awareness of IPV, increase community support for victims, and seek to prevent future violence.
