Company Overview
Discovering Options is a five year old non-profit organization that delivers after school programs to high risk children. All of our after school programs deliver a research based substance abuse prevention curriculum and a cadre of enriching activies like yoga, cultural cooking lessons, circus arts, theater workshops, conflict resolution and team building activities, art, science and nutrition, delivered by Masters Level Social workers. Our afterschool programs are under an umbrella we call PREP (promoting responsibility through education and preparation). PREP serves 300 at-risk K - 6th grade children a year .
Company History
The Executive Director, Charmaine Smith founded Discovering Options and pursued a grant opportunity to address the needs of impoverished and at-risk youth living in the City of St. Louis. That grant was the inception of PREP (Promoting Responsibility through Education and Preparation) The success of the PREP program, and the response of the children, their families and the community made it clear that children in urban settings need access to innovative and creative programming in a safe after school setting.
